1. Trayvon Martin
Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot and killed in Sanford, Fla., on Feb. 26. The unarmed boy was walking home from a local 7-Eleven store when he was killed by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman. Prior to the shooting, Zimmerman reported Martin was “behaving suspiciously.” The volunteer crime watcher allegedly shot Trayvon in “self-defense.” Trayvon’s death prompted international outcry. On March 21, thousands attended the “Million Hoodies March” in NYC to demand justice for Trayvon. This picture shows three children at the march’s starting point in Union Square Park.
